The Y is a gateway to many resources that will help you settle in to your new community. When everyone has access to meaningful opportunities, the whole community wins. And a strong local economy is essential for building a healthy community.

Are you new to Canada? You’re at the right place! 

Our Immigrant Services team can help you connect with a wide range of services you and your family need as newcomers to Canada—including career guidance, education programs, and language supports. YMCA staff can also speak a variety of languages.

Newcomer Services Programs

• Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) | A link between newcomer families, schools and the community. Our SWIS team is here to help facilitate your integration into the local education system and community
• Coordinated Language Assessment & Referral System (CLARS) | Our CLARS team offers eligibility screening, language skills assessment and referral to government-funded English language programs
• Wellness Navigators (SWN) | A link between newcomers and health and wellness agencies, including mental health supports. Essential information is provided to newcomers and to refer them to appropriate services and programs. Services offered are primarily information and referral.
• Newcomer Youth Employment (NYE) | Career support for youth up to age 29 who are seeking work in Canada. Our team creates individualized plans to navigate your career search and secure meaningful employment.
• Accelerated Career Exploration (ACE) | Individualized supports for internationally trained and educated newcomers to navigate the steps required to enter their field of work in Canada.
