Health and Safety

YMCA Day Camps have been reimagined for the March Break following Ministry of Health and Niagara Region Public Health guidance.  Our top propriety is providing a safe environment for our campers and staff. Families, children, and staff will all need to work together to achieve this.

Groups and Physical Distancing

Camp will be operating in groups of up to 10 children. Groups will stay together exclusively for the week. Camp activities are designed to promote physical distancing between participants. Within their group, children will be encouraged to maintain physical distancing whenever possible, and masks will be required unless children are eating or drinking.

Illness and Symptoms

YMCA Day Camp will follow the same health practices as Schools and Licensed Child Care Centers (available here). Parents/caregivers are asked to complete our YMCA Day Camp health screening each day for the child(ren). You will be asked to provide proof that all children who are attending camp have passed this screening (e.g. a screenshot of your green screen or downloaded results).

A link will be provided after registration to use to report a child’s absence. Parents/caregivers should report any absences daily by 10:30 am.

Before entering the program, all staff and participants will be required to wash or sanitize their hands.

If a child begins to develop any symptoms during the program the parent/caregiver will be notified and will be required to pick that child up immediately. For the safety of everyone involved, the child(ren) will be removed from the group while waiting to be picked up.

Pick-up and Drop-off

We ask that families follow physical distancing requirements at pick up and drop off times. Please be prepared to line up for drop off and pick up so that we can effectively screen and sign out all campers. .

If parents/caregivers need to drop-off or pick-up outside of the designed times they will be provided with a site number to text in advance to let the staff know. The earliest drop off time is 8:00am and latest pick up time will be 5:00pm. Please note there is no extended care available.

Camp will be using a designated entrance for drop off and pick up. Children and individuals dropping off are required to physical distance, maintaining a minimum of 6 feet between parents and children waiting to sign-in. Only one adult per family should approach the sign-in table for drop-off or pick-up.

Only individuals 16+ listed as authorized pick-up during the registration process will be permitted to sign participants out. Authorized pick-ups including parents/caregivers will be required to show valid, government issued photo identification daily.

For the safety of everyone involved, parents/caregivers and authorized individuals are asked to remain at the sign-in area and will not be permitted inside the program.

Please be advised that failure to follow the YMCA safety or screening practices may result in removal or dismissal from the Day Camp program at the discretion of the YMCA.
