Bridging the Gap to Inspire the Development of Newcomer Youth through Leadership, Connection and Belonging

For a child, moving to a different country and culture can be both overwhelming and devastating. For many, besides leaving behind war and corruption, they are also being separated from their home, their family and their friends. The YMCA understands the need for new connections. JoYn! helps to bridge the gap of starting over by welcoming Newcomer youth,  10 to 14 years of age to an established YMCA community program.  In their local schools, peer mentors who share similar language, customs and background along with YMCA leaders, equipped with diversity training and healthy child development ensure fun, connection and friendship in a multicultural setting.
