Ontario Investing $11.1 Million to Upgrade Recreation Infrastructure in Niagara Region
On July 8, representatives gathered in Chippawa to celebrate over $11.1 million in provincial funding to upgrade recreation infrastructure across Niagara, including an investment of $420,000 to retrofit the Niagara Centre YMCA in Welland with energy-efficient LED lighting and new rooftop HVAC units.
“These upgrades help keep our building safe, comfortable, and sustainable for everyone who walks through our doors,” said Ben McDermott, General Manager of Health, Fitness, and Aquatics. “This investment ensures our community members have a place they can count on – a true third place where people can come together, stay active, and support their well-being.”
The funding was announced as part of Ontario’s $200 million Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund, supporting economic growth and healthier communities across the province.
