YMCA Adventure Club

In 2020, at a time when children’s programs were being cancelled, the YMCA of Niagara took on the challenge of providing meaningful program experiences to children who need it the most!

Adventure Club was developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in collaboration with Family and Children Services Niagara and Niagara Region Children’s Services. It is a referral-based program for children between the ages of 6 to 12 who are at-risk or in vulnerable situations. The Club operates summer, fall and spring outdoor programs for children, provides at home resources, and supports for their families.

Adventure Club 2020 (Summer) program results

  • 97% of children felt safe and included
  • 98% of children look forward to participating in Adventure Club in the future
  • 97% of children had fun being a kid
  • 97% of children made a new friend
  • 94% of children developed their uniqueness
  • 94% of families were extremely satisfied with the program

“Every day they came home positive and refreshed from all the amazing experiences and new activities encountered; i.e. archery, songs, and loved the staff. Life was sunny and bright for all of us!”

“Parents were happy to see that their children had a place for her themselves, away from home but under good supervision with the trusted YMCA. Upon each return from the program, my child was happy, full of plans, and feeling independent!”

“Adventure Club helped my child’s mental health; not playing with friends has had a huge impact on them.”
