Youth Action

New for 2009 – All Youth Action Programs are for youth in grades 4-8 [ages 9-14].

The YMCA of Niagara’s Youth Action program is for all youth in grades 4-8 (age 9 to 14) - youth do not have to be a YMCA member to participate. Programs are offered throughout the Niagara region, and consist of four components: Youth Action School Program, Leaders in Action, Friday Nights and Dances. These programs offer youth a safe and positive environment in which they can learn new skills, participate in physical activities and socialize with friends while having a positive role model to assist and guide them and build their Developmental Assets.

Youth Action has been offered to youth in the Niagara community since 1985 with support from United Way, YMCA Strong Kids, Township of West Lincoln and Port Colborne Hydro.

Youth Action School Program:

This FREE recreational drop in program is offered throughout the week at local school gymnasiums throughout the Niagara region. Youth Action School Program gives youth the opportunity to participate in active games, play sports, and participate in special events and more. There is no re-entry.  Once you have left the program you cannot come back into the program.

Friday Nights:

The Friday Nights drop in program is offered at all 4 YMCA membership branches. Friday Nights give youth the chance to participate in all the activities offered in the school program as well as join in a variety of different activities available: open swim, Wii’s, weekly tournaments/special events and much more. Youth also have the opportunity to just hang out with their friends in a safe, supervised environment. The cost of this program is $5.

Niagara Centre YMCA Branch - 6-9pm
Niagara Falls YMCA Branch - 6-9pm
Fort Erie YMCA Branch - 6-9pm
St Catharines YMCA Branch - 7-10pm

Dances:

Dances are offered at St Catharines, Niagara Falls and Fort Erie branches. Youth can hang out with their friends and YMCA Youth Action Staff.

Niagara Falls and St Catharines dances cost $8 and run 7-10pm on Saturdays.

Fort Erie dances cost $5 and run 7-10pm on Fridays.

Ticket Information:

• Tickets go on sale on the Friday [Thursday in Fort Erie] 2 weeks prior to the dance and will be sold up to 1pm the day of the dance [4pm in Fort Erie] or until sold out, whichever comes first. This will allow ticket holders first entry into the dance.
• Tickets must be purchased in person at the membership desk at the branch the dance is being held at. There is no limit to the number of tickets you can purchase. Lost, misplaced or forgotten tickets cannot be honoured. Tickets are non refundable. If the dance is not sold out, tickets will available at the door 30 minutes after the start of the dance [7:30pm].

Other Information:

• School dress code is in effect. YMCA Staff will request the removal of inappropriate attire or refuse admission if the dress code is not followed.
• There is no re-entry. Once you have left the building you cannot come back into the dance.
