Capital Campaign

Thanking Capital Donors

The YMCA of Niagara has experienced a transformation through the development of two new YMCA's and the expansion of a third, enabling it to reach out to thousands more men, women and children in Niagara. With detailed research and a solid business plan in place, the YMCA plus many community volunteers and partners will expand the YMCA to serve up to 50,000 men, women and children in Niagara.

Niagara Falls YMCA in the MacBain Community Centre

The new YMCA within the MacBain Community Centre opened September 10, 2005. The YMCA was a strong player in the development of the MacBain Community Centre, located across from the Niagara Square Mall.

There are seven partners in the MacBain Community Centre including:

  • Heart Niagara Inc
  • YMCA of Niagara
  • Niagara Falls Public Library Neighbourhood Branch
  • Seniors Drop in Centre
  • United Way of Niagara Falls
  • Niagara Falls Big Brothers and Big Sisters
  • City of Niagara Falls Parks, Recreation and Culture offices

This $24M construction project was supported with funding from:

  • $15M City of Niagara Falls
  • $6M Federal and Provincial Canada/Ontario Infrastructure Program
  • $1M YMCA of Niagara
  • and through Capital Campaign dollars, thanks to the generosity of the community, including a $1 million donation from John H. McCall MacBain.

All donors are honoured on the Donor Recognition window located in the lobby. Contact Janet St. Amand, MacBain Community Centre Campaign Director, at 905 356 0190 if you are interested in making a charitable donation.

St. Catharines Walker Family YMCA

The Walker Family YMCA facility opened over a decade ago. Expansion and renovation plans completed in 2004 included a new outdoor water Aquatics Playground plus additional spray play features in the indoor aquatic centre; an expansion to the Family Change Room; an expansion to the Fitness Centre which provides a comfortable, private space for new exercisers and improved accessibility to equipment.

Together these changes enable the YMCA to reach out to those currently not involved in the YMCA including more families, adults with health challenges, new members and youth. The impact of the Walker Family YMCA has been strong, and these changes will build on those strengths.
