Low Ropes ProgramThe YMCA is excited to announce the opening of our new low ropes course! Building Character Strength of character is one’s ability to behave in a manner that is consistent with personal values, ethics and a sense of fairness. This session will focus on the need for taking personal responsibility for one’s actions, and using values to guide decision making behaviour. Participants will be presented with activities that assist in the values clarification process and be challenged with making difficult choices. Building relationships Many students struggle to understand their own worth within the context of peer relationships and turn to destructive tactics such as bullying and peer pressure to resolve conflict. This program will focus on trust and communication as the foundation for dynamic interpersonal relationships and includes activities that help students understand one another, celebrate shared success and foster unity. Program cost is $12 per student (for 3 hours or less). The Low Ropes Course program is designed for junior, intermediate and high school students (ages 9 to 17 years old). Programs are available for groups as small as 12 students and available for up to 60 students. Program locations The Low Ropes Course is located beside the Welland Niagara Centre YMCA, 310 Woodlawn Road. Groups meet at the Welland YMCA and walk over to the course. Swimming Option Swimming is available for school groups on Tuesday and Thursdays from 1 – 2pm at the Welland Niagara Centre YMCA. Subject to availability, teachers may have the opportunity to book a ropes program and swimming for their students in the same day. Swimming is an additional $3 per student. Rainy Day Program The program will still run in the event of light rain or colder weather, as participants are asked to be dressed according to the current weather conditions. In the case of snow or a severe thunder storm the group will be rescheduled based on availability. Teacher Involvement To ensure a memorable experience for everyone involved, YMCA staff will focus on program implementation, and we require that teachers are divided among the groups to actively supervise students. Parent Information Once you have registered for a YMCA Low Ropes Program, a parent information sheet will be sent to the school to distribute to the parents of students participating.
